VILLA CIMBRONE wedding: a FAIRYTALE on the amalfi coast

A wedding at Villa Cimbrone is the ultimate dream for couples drawn to the romance of the Amalfi Coast. Perched high above the sea in Ravello, this 11th-century estate is surrounded by lush gardens, sweeping views, and an aura of timeless charm. Katharine and Carl chose this magical setting after falling in love with the Amalfi Coast on their very first trip to Italy. The destination held deep meaning for them and Villa Cimbrone offered the perfect combination of history, elegance, and breathtaking scenery.

Considered one of the world’s most exclusive wedding venues, Villa Cimbrone is a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design. Its rich blend of Gothic, Moorish, and Venetian styles creates a dreamlike setting. Also, the famed Terrace of Infinity offers one of the most iconic views in all of Italy. From its enchanting gardens to the centuries-old stone pathways, the villa radiates a quiet grandeur. It’s a place where beauty feels effortless and enduring.

The bride & groom’s vision and style

Katharine and Carl imagined a joyful and vibrant celebration, one that captured the spirit of the Amalfi Coast while reflecting their refined taste. With the expert planning of WeddingItaly, that vision came to life in a palette of soft pinks, sunny yellows, and delicate blues. One of the details I loved most was how Katharine brought that palette to life through her bridal party’s styling. The bridesmaids wore light blue gowns, soft and elegant like the sea breeze. Her two maids of honor and both mothers stood out in bold pink, a modern, eye-catching choice that beautifully celebrated their meaningful roles.

Carl and his groomsmen opted for classic black tuxedos. The groom added a personal touch with luxury velvet slippers by Del Toro. Katharine was radiant in her custom Monique Lhuillier dress. An embroidered floral tulle strapless corset bodice gown complemented a short-sleeved embroidered tulle jacket. A soft cathedral veil and embroidered tulle gloves completed her romantic vision. She looked like a vision from a modern fairytale.

During the bridal preparations, both Katharine’s mother and future mother-in-law were by her side. The two women had grown close, especially during a difficult time in the family’s life. Her mother-in-law had offered deep support and kindness — becoming not just family, but a true friend. Their shared presence added tenderness and emotion to the morning. Capturing the quiet joy of her mother, the warmth of her bridesmaids, and the love exchanged with her mother-in-law was deeply special.

The first look and the ceremony at St Andrew’s Cathedral, Amalfi

Before the ceremony, the couple shared a private first look at the serene Heaven’s Cloister in Amalfi — a hidden corner of calm and intimacy.
They then exchanged vows in a traditional Catholic ceremony at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Amalfi’s most iconic church. The grand staircase, the blend of medieval and baroque architecture, and the cheers of tourists and guests alike created a scene full of joy and anticipation.

In a gesture that took Katharine by surprise, Carl had arranged for a vintage red Alfa Romeo to be waiting for them outside. After their grand exit, they toasted with a glass of prosecco before heading up the coast toward Ravello.

The reception at Villa Cimbrone, Ravello

While guests enjoyed a scenic ride to the venue, I joined the newlyweds for portraits along the coastline and in the gardens of Villa Cimbrone. The light was golden, the air full of promise, and every image we captured felt like a scene from a classic film. Upon arrival, friends and family gathered at the Terrace of Infinity for signature cocktails and live music. The view stretched endlessly over the Mediterranean, glowing softly in the golden hour light.

As twilight settled in, guests returned to the villa’s crypt for dinner. The space was transformed by Malafronte Fiori into a lush, romantic setting with floral installations, greenery, and candlelight . A perfect match for the villa’s dramatic architecture. The newlyweds surprised everyone with a fresh look for the reception. Carl opted for a white tuxedo jacket, Katharine for soft waves hair and a custom crown by Erin Rhyne. Throughout the evening, heartfelt speeches, toasts, and laughter flowed freely. The scent of local cuisine and the warmth of Italian wine added to the ambiance, making it a night to remember.

the after party

After dinner, guests moved to the villa’s lawn. The garden area was styled with elegant lounge corners, a custom bar, and a dance floor under the open sky. Katharine and Carl began the evening festivities with their cake cutting, followed by a romantic first dance surrounded by their loved ones. As they moved gracefully to the music, cold fireworks lit up the night, adding a touch of wonder to the moment. Their dances with their parents followed, intimate, moving, and deeply heartfelt.

As the music picked up, even the youngest guests joined the celebration. The dance floor came alive with joy and energy, carrying the evening into a night of pure celebration and connection. A bar area, cozy lounge spaces, and a live band created the perfect setting to celebrate late into the night.

Katharine and Carl’s wedding at Villa Cimbrone was everything a destination wedding should be: joyful, meaningful, and breathtakingly beautiful. From the colorful palette to the intimate ceremony, from the laughter during speeches to the magic of the moonlit dance floor, it was a day filled with emotion, beauty, and unforgettable memories.
